Reddi-wip real whipped cream was created in 1948 by Aaron "Bunny" Lapin, a St. Louis inventor who had also developed a special aerosol valve. Originally distributed by St. Louis milkmen, Reddi-wip was an instant hit with consumers because of its novelty, convenience and fun. Once the brand went national in 1954, there was no looking back.
In 1994, author Henry Petroski described Reddi-wip as "a little luxury that no one but the inventor deemed we needed but that all of us find indispensable once it is marketed." Reddi-wip also was named to Time magazine's list of the 100 greatest consumer products in 1998, and today the brand continues to evolve.
Most recently, Reddi-wip added a new product to its line Chocolate Reddi-wip debuted just in time for the 2001 holiday season. Reddi-wip has become a true dessert icon.
Reddi-wip has received "Hollywood" recognition and fame primarily for the spontaneous fun it brings to otherwise dull moments. Reddi-wip has played a "supporting role" on some of today's top television dramas and comedies, including The Sopranos, Gilmore Girls, Judging Amy, Saturday Night Live, That 70's Show, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Saturday Night Live.
The Sopranos
Reddi-wip transforms a tense situation between Tony Soprano and his son into a spontaneously fun whipped cream war.
